Exciting trip in Guilin and Yangshuo
Our trip to Guilin and Yangshuo was guided by Henry, a very knowledgeable and helpful local guide. We visited in scorching heat and we had to make some adjustments to the program in order to be able to cope with the heat. Henry was very flexible and resourceful. For instance, he took as to learn and play mahjong in the afternoon, an activity which was lots of fun, and even offered us as a gift a small mahjong set for travel, which we highly appreciated. We also changed the visit to a water cave with a trip to Ruyi Peak, which was fitting our group better. The water cave exploration can be quite tricky as we understand and we have in our group a person over 60, therefore it did not seem appropriate. Instead, we agreed with Henry to visit Ruyi Peak, which offers spectaculor views over the karst scenery. We visited Da'xu ancient town and Red Flute cave in the first day, which was not so exciting, but the Li river cruise and visiting Yangshuo is really worthwhile. Henry also arranged for us to see the Impressions by SanjuLiu show, which we highly recommend. more

Mystisch und bestens umsorgt
Wir wurdem am Bahnhof von Ling abgeholt und bis wir am Hotel ankamen, hatte Sie bereits Medikamente für den Husten meines Mannes und meine Magenverstimmung besorgt. Das Highlight in Guilin, war für uns die Schiffahrt auf dem Lin-Fluss, mystisch und atemberaubend. Die Reissterrassen erstreckten sich endlos. Unser Hotel hatte einen wundersch?nen Blick auf den Fluss und die dahinterliegende Karstlandschaft. Wir k?nnen die private Reiseleitung (Ling und Chauffeur) sowie Chinahighlights w?rmstens empfehlen. Alles hat wunderbar geklappt. more

Beautiful Guilin and Yangshuo
We had the best time in Guilin and Yangshuo with Michelle as our guide. The Li River cruise is not to be missed— truly stunning! We loved the quiet beauty of Yangshuo. My kids loved the Reed Flute Cave, and my husband, and I loved the bike ride along the river in Yangshuo. A cable car ride up the mountain and glass bridge was pretty amazing as well! Loved every moment! Michelle was so accommodating and kind and really did a great job with our four children! I highly recommend Michelle and China Highlights! They made our trip amazing and so easy! more

Suggested Itinerary
Your English guide will pick you up from your hotel at Guilin in the morning. Private car and driver will take you to Longji Terraced Fields with a 2-2.5h journey. You will go through Dazhai Village, the best part of Longji with more magnificent terraced fields but fewer travelers. The village is impressive of a large-scale wooden minority houses, especially decorated by lots of hot red peppers and golden rice plants in autumn.
Have fun to chat with local Zhuang people at their home, and taste local unique food-oil tea at noon. You can also learn how to make the oil tea with them who have lived there for generations. Start your hiking up to mountain ridge for a better view and reach your hotel. The hiking lasts 2-3 hours to your hotel which has a panorama view of the fields. Come cross some local people working in the fields, enjoy a beautiful picture with local wooden houses decorated by terraced fields, walk through the fantastic fields-a golden heaven in autumn.
Have a local Chinese breakfast at the hotel in the morning. Leave your hotel at 08:00, and start a longer hiking which is 4-5h hiking to Ping'an village. You will walk down and go uphill among the mountains. Guided by local people, enjoy a peaceful countryside life, and have a look at ethnic people life.
Later, arrive at Ping'an village-a popular destination in the Longji Terraced Fields. Walk down from the top with the best view, have lunch in Ping'an village and try the local bamboo rice. Continue to explore the terraced fields after the meal, and start to move back to Guilin.
Trip Notes
1. Best time to do the hiking
May to October is the best period to hike among the terraced fields. Avoid Guilin's monsoon (March and April).
2. What to see
Watering the fields starts every April, planting in June and harvest comes during late September. You could find a special panoramic view from May to September, especially for photograph lovers. Your tour guide will gladly lead you to the best spots with panoramic view.
Golden terraced fields are fabulous during China's National Day holiday. Although we don't recommend visiting China during the period, yet it's the best time to see and photograph the countless yellow rice terraces. The rice stalks don't turn golden before National Day and is quickly cut after the holiday. Rice in Dazhai Village is cut later than Ping'an Village area.
3. What to pack
The route is touched by a few travelers. Bring some water and snacks while there is only one shop on the way from Dazhai village to Ping'an village (4-5h hiking). Good walking shoes are necessary.
